Junior Low Voltage Estimator – Build Your Career in Construction
Big construction projects start long before the first cable gets pulled. Someone has to find the opportunity, read the blueprints, calculate the costs, and put together a bid worth winning.
That’s where you come in.
As a Junior Low Voltage Estimator & Bid Coordinator at Towner Communications, you’ll work alongside experienced engineers to identify construction opportunities, estimate structured cabling and telecommunications infrastructure projects, and help turn promising bids into real work.
In this role, you’ll:
-
Discover opportunities: Find new construction and renovation projects where Towner can serve as a low-voltage subcontractor.
-
Read blueprints: Review construction drawings and specifications to understand project requirements.
-
Build estimates: Calculate material quantities, research pricing, and develop project estimates with our engineers.
-
Prepare competitive bids: Coordinate proposals and submissions to general contractors.
-
Work with project managers: Help transition awarded projects to our installation team.
-
Track results: Follow bids from submission through award and learn what makes projects profitable.
You bring the construction fundamentals. We’ll help you master the low-voltage side.
Where You’ll Work – Kansas City, Missouri
Your career starts in Kansas City. The projects you’ll help build reach across the Midwest.
This is a full-time, primarily office-based position at Towner Communications’ Kansas City headquarters. You’ll work directly with our engineers, estimators, and project management team to discover construction opportunities, review blueprints, and prepare competitive low-voltage construction bids.
Most days, you’ll be researching upcoming projects, reviewing construction drawings, calculating material quantities, and coordinating proposals with general contractors. You’ll also have opportunities to visit active construction sites and see how the projects you’ve helped estimate come together.
No remote guessing. No getting thrown into the deep end.
You’ll have experienced technical professionals nearby to answer questions, review your estimates, and help you develop the skills that turn classroom knowledge into a construction career.
Based in Kansas City. Learning from experienced professionals. Building a career with real potential.
What You Need to Succeed as a Junior Low Voltage Estimator
You don’t need five years of construction estimating experience to get your foot in the door. You need a solid foundation, an eye for detail, and the drive to turn what you’ve learned into something real.
We’re looking for someone who enjoys solving problems, working with numbers, and figuring out how construction projects come together. If you’ve studied construction estimating, construction management, or a related trade, we want to hear from you.
Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Team:
-
Construction education: An associate degree, technical certificate, or relevant coursework in construction estimating, construction management, construction technology, electrical construction, or a related field.
-
Blueprint reading: A basic understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and material takeoffs.
-
Math and analytical skills: Confidence working with measurements, quantities, spreadsheets, and cost calculations.
-
Computer skills: Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and the ability to learn estimating and construction bidding software.
-
Organization: The ability to manage multiple opportunities, track deadlines, and keep project information accurate.
-
Communication: The confidence to ask questions, work with engineers, and communicate professionally with general contractors and suppliers.
-
Initiative: A willingness to research opportunities, solve problems, and take ownership of your work.
-
Attention to detail: The ability to spot missing information, double-check calculations, and recognize when something doesn’t add up.
Bonus points: Experience with Bluebeam, PlanSwift, STACK, construction bid platforms, structured cabling, or a construction internship.
No previous low-voltage estimating experience required. We’ll teach you the technical side.
Challenges of the Role (Let’s Keep It Real)
Construction projects don’t wait around. Bid deadlines are firm, blueprints change, and sometimes you’ll be juggling several opportunities at once. One missed detail in an estimate can make the difference between a profitable project and an expensive lesson.
You’ll need to stay organized, double-check your numbers, ask smart questions, and be comfortable learning something new every day.
Here’s the good news: We don’t expect you to know everything walking in. You’ll work with experienced engineers and project managers who will help you develop your estimating skills and understand how construction projects come together.
If you like solving puzzles, enjoy working with numbers, and get a little satisfaction from figuring out what everyone else missed, you’ll fit right in.
